Within easy reach of Phuket we are spoilt for choice for beautiful, iconic islands. Phang Nga Bay alone has around 100 islands, and scenes from this area feature on many a postcard and brochure about Thailand. This wonderful, well-organised day trip takes you to visit six of these islands by speedboat, and combines sightseeing and snorkelling, with a whole range of activities that make for an amazing, fun-packed day.
'Phi Phi Plus' Tour
Your day starts with an early pick-up from your accommodation, and you are driven to meet your speedboat at the pier. Before boarding, your guides will tell you about the day ahead, while you enjoy a complimentary welcome drink.
Your first destination is the island of Khai Nui, just a short ride away, where you’ll get the chance to snorkel over the reef, teeming with colourful fish. After Khai Nui, you’ll head to nearby Koh Yao Yai, where you can relax on the white sands of a private beach, while enjoying cold drinks and a Thai set lunch, including delicious, freshly barbecued seafood and chicken. Self-paddle canoes, beach volleyball and other beach games are available here if you’re feeling energetic!
Bamboo Island, a true paradise
The afternoon takes you to the islands in the Phi Phi group, the first being Mosquito Island where you’ll have time to explore, and enjoy snorkelling in the clear, warm waters. Next, you’ll head to Bamboo Island, a true paradise island with creamy sand and turquoise sea. Here you can choose to swim, snorkel again, or simply sunbathe on the quiet beach and absorb the beautiful scenery.
Your next island is Phi Phi Don, the largest of the Phi Phi group, with gorgeous bays and breathtaking scenery. The boat will take you along the coastline of dramatic limestone cliffs and idyllic bays, until a stop at Monkey Beach, and a chance to take photos.
The last island of the day is Phi Phi Lay, where you’ll have the chance to see Viking Cave, where the locals collect Bird’s Nests, a local delicacy, as well as scenic Pileh Cove, whose tall trees host many bats in their upper branches.
Beautiful Maya Bay - "the beach"
After a visit to picturesque Loh Samah Bay, your final stop is of the day is Maya Bay, the location where movie “The Beach” was filmed in 2000. Now a National Park, the tsunami of 2004 removed all remaining evidence of the film crew’s existence, restoring the bay to its original, natural appearance. Today it is visited by many, not just because of its celebrity history - it is well worth a visit for its truly spectacular scenery. After an hour exploring and relaxing at ‘The Beach’, the speedboat will return you to the pier on Phuket, and your day comes to an end as you board your transfers back to your accommodation.
